Event Monitor
Previous Next

This is a portable ECG recorder that is worn by the patient and activated by pressing a button whenever cardiac discomfort (an “event”) is experienced. It records a short episode of the heart's rate and rhythm, which can be called in over the telephone so that the results can be evaluated.

Once the recording is transmitted, it is processed, evaluated, and sent immediately to the cardiologist for interpretation. The cardiologist will inform the child's parent or guardian as to the results of the test.

Using an Event Monitor is noninvasive and causes no pain, other than possible slight irritation where the electrodes are placed.  The typical monitoring period is 30 days, but may be less if the necessary information is obtained sooner.
