Pulmonary Hypertension

Exercise Concerns

Safe levels of exercise will depend on the cause of secondary pulmonary hypertension. In most cases, normal or near normal levels of activity will be recommended.

In cases of primary pulmonary hypertension, the overall condition of the patient should be closely monitored and safe activity levels will need to be determined by the cardiologist. Patients with primary pulmonary hypertension are at risk of sudden death with exercise and should be carefully evaluated prior to engagement in any type of exercise.

Anyone with pulmonary hypertension, treated or untreated, should consult with their cardiologist about physical activity to review the risks.
